A Corridor Access Request (CAR), formerly known as a Road Opening Notice, is a type of permit required by Road-Controlling Authorities (councils) and NZ Transport Agencies if you intend to perform excavation work, or other non-excavation activities, within a road corridor.
If you plan on working within a road, footpath or berm, when you lodge a beforeUdig enquiry for excavation purposes in a registered road-controlling authority's jurisdiction, a CAR will automatically be generated at the same time as your plans/locates request. This is to comply with the New Zealand National Code of Practice, which can be viewed here.
If a CAR has been generated with your enquiry, it will show on your job summary information. You will need to lodge any required paperwork with the councils system, "Submitica", directly (instructions should be emailed out to you).
Occasionally, two roading authorities may be notified (e.g. NZTA as well as council). You then need to also upload documents with NZTA via their Submitica.
